About Allegra

My Philosophy

Science shows us that animals learn best and are less stressed when they are rewarded for behaviors we want, rather than punished for behaviors we don’t want.

For that reason, I will never use punishment or intentionally aversive methods or tools (e.g., shock collars, yelling, leash corrections) with your dog. Instead, I will manage the environment to prevent unwanted behaviors and facilitate desired ones, respect their boundaries and seek to give them as much agency/choice as possible. I make liberal use of treats as rewards.

If you have particular concerns about your dog’s behavior, I am happy to discuss how I would address it while they are in my care. I can also refer you to certified trainers and behavioral consultants.

“What I love most about caring for animals is getting to know them as individuals—their unique personalities, preferences and quirks. Then I can tailor my care to best meet their needs for safety, mental stimulation, exercise and social interaction.”
